
The Guelph Youth Dance Summer Intensives provide exciting and informative opportunities for dancers to develop training and technique and to explore new choreographic work. This year’s feature guest artists is Toronto-based dance artist, Mio Sakamoto
For experienced dancers DOB 2004-2008, July 4-8, 9:30-3:00pm
Classes in contemporary, ballet and choreography/repertoire
For dancers DOB 2009-2012, July 11-15, 9:30-2:45 pm
Classes in contemporary dance, ballet, jazz & repertoire/choreography
Cost: $325 per week
*Mandatory for all 2022-23 GYD Company dancers (born 2008 and earlier)
Guest Artist Mio Sakamoto
Mio Sakamoto is a Toronto based performer, choreographer and educator originally from Japan. She was Kaeja Elevation Choreography Assistant for the Wendy & Peter Pan production of the Stratford Festival in 2019/2020. In 2020, she was selected to receive the RBC Newcomer Arts Award by Neighbourhood Arts Network – Toronto Arts Foundation. In 2021, she was selected for the first year-long Artist in Residence of Kaeja d’Dance.

Mio’s class and choreography description:
I create choreography as a form of communication. In my class, I invite dancers to find ways to connect with ourselves and others through physicality. We will explore elements of contemporary technique, floor-work, partnering and improvisation.
