The Guelph Youth Dance Company, Apprentice I and Apprentice II Companies provide serious young dancers ages 9-19 with opportunities to work with a variety of professional choreographers and to perform regularly throughout the year. The company experience is inspiring, challenging and deeply enriching for young dancers considering a profession in dance.
Guelph Youth Dance Company
The GYD Company was formed in 2008, by Janet Johnson and Catrina von Radecki as a means of further celebrating, enhancing and training young dancers. Now in our 9th year of the Guelph Youth Company, we have some very strong, talented, ambitious and highly creative dancers who perform together regularly in events such as Hillside Inside (Guelph), DanceOntario Weekend (Toronto), Art Harvest (London), Carousel Dance Centre (Waterloo) and in a variety of locations in Guelph including the Guelph Dance Festival. These same dancers have worked with some of the best dancers and choreographers from across Canada including David Earle (Guelph), Karen Kaeja (Toronto), Lina Cruz (Montreal), Suzanne Miller (Montreal), Jordana Deveau (Toronto), and Anik Bourvrette (Ottawa). This year has been an exceptional year for the company as they embark on a 10 day tour throughout China, March 10-20th!
We look forward to continuing to develop a variety of relationships with other youth organizations such as the Suzuki String School (Guelph), Swansea School of Dance (Toronto), Carousel Dance (Waterloo) and the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre (Toronto).
