Hailing from Toronto, Chenise Mitchell has been performing professionally for over 10 years. Chenise is a trained dancer with an affinity for acting and singing. She was able to consider theatre as a career at a young age with connections to accomplished artists such as: Nicholas Villeneuve, Bonnie Kim, Sharon Wong, Gino Berti and Belinda McGuire through her highschool Cawthra Park Secondary School. While earning her BFA (at Ryerson University) she was able to hone her passion for theatrical and collaborative arts and discover her love of jazz. The Decidedly Jazz Danceworks professional program further developed her bravery and artistry. Chenise has performed in commercials, music videos and concerts in Toronto and Calgary and continues to direct her own works. In Calgary she garnered opportunities with: One Yellow Rabbit, Handsome Alice, Spirit Fire Theatre, DJD, Calgary International Children’s Festival and Particle and Wave Festival. She has also performed her own creations at: Fluid Festival, Ignite! Festival, SoulStep, MADbeatz, Fifteen Minutes of Fame Fest. Since moving back to Toronto in 2018, Chenise has performed with Mikaela Demers, JMP Productions, Dance Fachin and Rodney Diverlus in: Body Break X, NUNSENSE The Musical, Ottawa and PEI Fringe and Summerworks 2019. Chenise has been sharing her passion as a teacher for 6 years. As a teacher, Chenise loves to encourage bravery and creativity in others, whether they are pursuing dance as a career or doing it for fun. For Chenise, Jazz is a versatile genre where dancers can be challenged and have fun while expressing themselves honestly and discovering their personal style. Dance is a means for support and expression; dance is a language of connection to be shared. Chenise is excited to share this passion with Guelph Youth Dance!
