Colleen Snell works with a broad range of dance and movement organizations in a number of roles. Her most notable ongoing artistic involvement is with Frog in Hand, a multidisciplinary, site-specific performance group she co-founded in 2012. Colleen devises and performs collaborative work with musicians, spoken word poets, actors, fight directors, visual artists and martial artists. Commissions include: Toronto Fringe 2018, Creature, Block Party, Springboard Danse 2015, the Mississauga Waterfront Festival, the Off the Wall Project, Art Gallery of Ontario Massive Party, and the Guelph Dance Festival. Frog in Hand has received support from the City of Mississauga, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts.
Independently, Colleen works freelance, and has performed with the Transcendance Project, APDP (Alysa Pires), Dancemakers (Toronto Nuit Blanche), the Toronto Love-In, Toronto Fringe Festival, and TOES for Dance, among others. In March 2018 she participated in the Banff Centre’s physical theatre workshop, moderated by The SITI Company. Colleen is an advanced actor-combatant with Fight Directors Canada, a writer with the Dance Current and an alumnus of the National Ballet of Canada’s inaugural Emerging Dance Critics program. Colleen trained in Toronto (CCDT), in Montreal (EDCM), and in England, where she completed a Masters Degree at the London Contemporary Dance School.
